    <p>Исследована парадоксальная научная дискуссия о природе катодных лучей между сторонниками волнового эфира и материальных частиц. Рассмотрены эксперименты Перрена. Проанализированы оценки отношения заряда к массе частиц катодных лучей в работах Шустера, Дж. Дж. Томсона и других ученых. Представлена гипотеза Дж. Дж. Томсона о корпускулах, а также результаты его работ, которые привели к открытию электрона. Уделено внимание исследованиям Ридчардсона по электропроводности пространства, окружающего горячую поверхность металлических проволок и вывод им формулы, носящей его имя.</p>

   <trans-abstract xml:lang="en">
    <p>A paradoxical scientific discussion about the origin of cathode rays between external wave ether and material particles is investigated. Perrin’s experiments are considered. The estimates of the ratio of charge to mass of particles of cathode rays in the works of Schuster, J. J. Thomson and other scientists. The hypothesis of J. J. Thomson about corpuscles is presented, as well as the results of his work, which lead to the discovery of the electron. Attention is paid to Ridchardson’s research on the electrical conductivity of the surrounding space surrounding the surface of metal wires and the derivation of the formula of his name.</p>
