The work is devoted to the analysis of the behavior of the scientific tutor in an attempt to form the competencies related to the research work. As an example it is proposed a step-by-step analysis of the thesis on the determination of complexation parameters of C60 fullerene with a caffeine molecule in an aqueous solution by means of an IR spectrometer. The emphasis is on the moves aimed to maximize the individual, and most importantly, the productive work of the student.
